The rumor mill has it that residents in the area where the GAA fields were once located complained about the mess and expressed a concern that the area could be used for unlawful activities. When the Diocese of Springfield considered building a high school in the spot near Cindy's Drive In, there was a lot of bulldozer work which created some rough terrain that was evidently becoming overgrown.
Although the owners of the property began talks with the Planning Board about a potential Over 55 development, the high water table and lack of sewers in the area and the poor economy will prevent development any time soon. In my opinion.
