Doctored Evidence Rejected in MN Recount

January 27th, 2009 · Comments Off

Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minnesota) is done. His campaign erased information from some of the absentee ballots that they copied and presented as evidence. Cheating is never good, getting caught is even worse.
TPM reports,
The Minnesota election trial just had a truly brutal moment, one that could undermine the credibility of Norm Coleman's whole case.
The Coleman campaign summoned political [...] Read more »

Franken Likely to Win Recount?

December 18th, 2008 · Comments Off

The recounters are taking a break. They will resume at 2 p.m. Comedian Al Franken is considered a favorite to win. It's likely we'll know today if he becomes the 59th member of the Democratic caucus.

I do consider Franken the favorite in the recount, but that is because it appears that erroneously rejected absentee ballots [...] Read more »

Recent Decisions in Franken’s Favor

December 13th, 2008 · Comments Off

The Senate will tilt strongly Democratic regardless of whether Al Franken wins the recount in Minnesota. Fifty-eight votes is almost veto proof. But fifty-nine votes is better.
The count will now include 133 lost ballots in a district that went strongly for Franken, and all counties will have to count ballots that were unfairly rejected. These ballots include [...] Read more »

Presidential Prank Calls? GOP Congresswoman Hangs Up on Obama

December 4th, 2008 · Comments Off

This is funny.
When President-elect Barack Obama called Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen at her South Florida district office Wednesday, she hung up on him.
'I thought: `Why would Obama want to call a little slug on the planet like me?' '' Ros-Lehtinen said.
A short time later, Rahm Emanuel, Obama's designated chief of staff, called. Ros-Lehtinen hung up on him, [...] Read more »

No Big Deal: Joe the Plumber’s Book Deal

December 2nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

I've heard of one-horse towns, but one-book publishers? Joe the Plumber's reportedly has a book deal with PearlGate Publishing, what The New York Times generously calls  a small publisher. But how much smaller can a publisher get? It has only one book, a conservative Christian novel by author/self-publisher Thomas Tabback. More Reasons to Hate Joe Lieberman

November 27th, 2008 · Comments Off

LBJ once said he rather have his enemies inside his tent pissing out than outside his tent pissing in. I think that may have been Obama's reason for allowing Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) to keep his committee chairs and to continue to caucus with the Democrats.
Lieberman was forgiven for supporting his friend Sen. John McCain for [...] Read more »

Senate Inches Toward 59 Democrats?

November 24th, 2008 · Comments Off

You have to be hard-core, and I mean haaaard-core to dig the math here, but the gist is the guys at 538 think Minnesota is listing Frankenly. Here's it:

As we wrote yesterday evening, the ever-increasing number of challenged ballots in Minnesota is making it more and more difficult to determine the extent to which Al [...] Read more »

58 Is Great, But 59 Would Be More Fine

November 20th, 2008 · Comments Off

Alaska's Ted "Bridge to Nowhere" Stevens has conceded defeat to Democrat Mark Begich, bringing the number of Democrats in the Senate one vote closer to a 60 vote, veto proof majority.
Things are looking up in Minnesota as well. Incumbent Norm Coleman (R) has seen his small lead shrink, and Franken and absentee voters won a major victory which [...] Read more »

Senate Democrats Likely to Number 58 or 59

November 15th, 2008 · Comments Off

One senate race is destined for a run off. Two senate elections are too close to call. But chances are that Democrats will pick up at least one and quite possibly two seats bringing majority party to an almost veto proof majority. With the Republican Party looking more and more like it will move to the [...] Read more »

America Loves Democratic Control, Poll Finds

November 12th, 2008 · Comments Off

George Will, like many journo/pundits inside the beltway, gets things wrong most of the time. One of his favorite statements is that the American people like a divided government. That's bunk, of course. Some people certainly like a divided government, but the idea appeals mostly to Will's version of conservatism, an ideology not embraced by his [...] Read more »

Don’t Blame McCain: Palin Was the Right Wing’s Pick

November 11th, 2008 · Comments Off

For a while now, I've been on my soapbox about the demise of the Republican Party. It's not a newsflash, but who knew that it was the right wing of the GOP that pushed for Sarah Palin as John McCain's campaign pick.
Once upon a time, the GOP was a party of ideas, some of them half-baked, some of them [...] Read more »

Tilt! Tilt! Senate Republicans Lean More Right

November 10th, 2008 · Comments Off

It's a matter of Democrats wiping out Republicans in more moderate states. The result is that those senators left are increasingly conservative from conservative states. It will make things interesting when it comes time to pass legislation. The Democrats need 3 votes for a veto proof majority.

Behind the Scenes of Election 2008

November 9th, 2008 · Comments Off

I'm not sick. But I'm not finding much to write about today. Like the majority of Americans, I'm enthusiastic about President Elect Barack Obama. If anything was apparent from the talking heads this morning, it was the fact that even Republican thinkers are happy Obama was elected.

McCain Campaign Faked Out in PA?

November 5th, 2008 · Comments Off

Political Wire is suggesting that the Obama campaign fooled the hapless McCain campaign to wasting time and money in Pennsylvania. Obama handily won the Keystone State. Evidence, you ask?
1. Obama's campaign learns McCain has just $37 million entering October.
2. Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell says he's "nervous" that McCain is gaining ground.
3. Obama's team "leaks" an internal [...] Read more »

Question 1 Resoundingly Defeated

November 5th, 2008 · Comments Off

Even before the unions put up for the money for Vote No on Question 1, I thought the question would go down in flames. It's one thing to have a radical anti-tax agenda in fat times, it's another to have such an agenda when the economy is going belly up. It was no surprise to [...] Read more »

Granby’s Election Results

November 5th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Seventy-nine percent of registered Granby voters cast ballots today. That's a hell of a lot. I don't know if it's a record or not. The exact number of voters was 3577. These results are the first "unofficial" counts posted for the public. The numbers may or may not change depending on my arithmetic. Check the newspaper [...] Read more »
