After my select board meeting was unexpectedly canceled yesterday, I was looking at a few hours of free time. I had planned a hike for today, but decided yesterday was just as good. So Cody B. and I took off to the Dufresnes Park trails. I love warm autumn days for hiking. There are no [...] Read more »

I never made it out for a second hike this weekend. Cody B. hurt his foot playing with dogs in the penned in area for canines. By the time we got home, he was limping pretty badly. It's happened before. It'll happen again. The vet actually biopsied one lump on his foot. No fluid, just [...] Read more »

A $200,000 Granby house that happens to fall in South Hadley's Fire District 2 pays $500-600 more a year in taxes. The reason? It's lost somewhere down the line in history. The $2.33 per thousand dollars is added to these Granby citizen's property tax bills, according to state law. It will take a state law to undo the [...] Read more »

I missed the Colgate 13 last night. Yesterday, I had to do detention, affectionately known as a "three hour" by those students who serve them, and by the time I got home, I wasn't good for much. I fell asleep watching Dateline and reading a book on statistics. I don't think I made it to [...] Read more »

I never really knew Mr. Canniff. Kelly graduated with me 1982, and also Erin graduated a year later. I know that Richard Freccero, my boss at East Longmeadow High School, was involved with the UMass team and knew Mr. Canniff well. You may have noticed I've been posting on Masslive in the last few days. Misinformation that goes uncorrected has a tendency to become accepted. It's [...] Read more »

It broke my heart when I heard that Patrick Curran passed away. As a teacher, I often look at people his age as if they were a student. It's not that I was trying to teach Patrick anything. I just had the feelings I have for my students. Feelings of affection, concern, and well-wishing. And I believed in Patrick [...] Read more »
